What is Access to Work?

Access to Work (AtW) is a grant that funds practical support if you have a disability, health or mental health condition. In most cases it funds the whole cost.

The aim is to help you either:

  • start work

  • stay in work

  • move into self-employment, or

  • start a business.

ADHD, and all other forms of neurodivergence, fall into this category - and you do NOT need a formal diagnosis.

Support will differ depending on your needs, but it can include ADHD coaching (sometimes called coping strategies), a support worker (often a Virtual Assistant), specialist equipment to help you do your job, and support with essential travel if it's impacted for you.

Sounds too good to be true, right?

It's not... but it's also not always totally straight forward.

Operated by the Department for Work and Pensions, AtW has become more widely used of late and the service has struggled to keep up with demand. They've also had to make big changes to how they work, and not all of those are ADHD-friendly.

We like to be as real as we can here... it's not always a walk in the park, but with fully funded support that you're absolutely entitled to if you aren't 'neurotypical', the pay-off can really be worth the work.

For example, Suzy was awarded a three year package of equipment, coaching and support work worth a five figure sum.

You don't have to work with the providers they suggest!

The most important thing about this support, especially if you're self employed, is working with someone who is right for you.

Someone who, for example, might:

  • shares your values when it comes to work

  • demonstrates their approach to neurodivergent support

  • works in a way that suits you, and on days/times that work for you

  • understands you and listens to your challenges and opportunities

  • gets your brain... possibly because they have a similar one!

My caseworker has asked me to provide quotes

OK, this is the perfect time to be here - so, welcome!

Step one is to have an initial, no-obligation intro call with Suzy so you can see how you get on, and what coaching solution might be right for you.

We can:

  • provide a quotation for your ADHD coaching, and

  • put you in touch with other coaches in our network, for additional or comparative quotes you might need.

“Coaching sessions with Suzy were always helpful. Her questions helped me consider different options and perspectives. Their experience and knowledge are very apparent. They’re encouraging, realistic and analytical. I’d highly recommend them to anyone.” - Anna Hunter

I already have an award in place

Well done - you've done a big chunk of work to get this far!

We can:

  • have an intro call to see if Suzy is a good fit for you as a coach, with no obligation

  • send you our quotation and support you in asking for any changes that might be needed to your award to work with us, and/or

  • recommend some other coaches in our network who might better suit your needs.

Meet Suzy, the ADHD coach

That’s me in the photo. Builder of Bright Bold Businesses. Proud technicolour brain, hair and all.

I’m an ADHD Coach who’s worked in business support for over 20 years (does it show?). In that time, I’ve helped hundreds of businesses of all shapes, sizes and ages figure sh*t out.

My treasure hunting instincts are finely tuned to sniff out strengths and weaknesses. My brain is adept at finding clear, creative strategies. My mouth refuses to speak in business jargon.

And I’ve had to do things the neurotypical way for long enough to know that “ordinary” doesn’t work when you see things in extraordinary ways.
